Artist Caren Sarmiento demonstrated her craft Sunday at Tamiami Airport.

Soaring in a light plane overhead, she heaved a balloon out of a window. The balloon plummeted 100 feet to a 10-by-10-yardstrip of canvas stretched out on a runway. The balloon burst with spread of color, a direct hit, one of several in pink, blue, lavender and yellow. A small crowd applauded. After the plane landed, Sarmiento administered the final strokes with a few well-aimed balloon hits at close range.
