Montana Standard, Butte, Wednesday, Anui 23, 1997 AS Judges named to fill In for Judge on leave Martin A Lighted today, Wednesday, I i- April 23 GLASGOW (AP) Glasgow Mayor Wilmer Zeller Sr. has appointed two judges to temporarily replace City Judge Susan Dolan, who has been placed on paid leave pending a state-level investigation in her handling of court funds. Gregory Mohr of Sidney, Richland County justice of the peace and city judge, and Ron Johnson of Wolf Point, Roosevelt County justice of the peace and city judge, have agreed to assist in handling Dolan's caseload, in addition to their own, the attorney general's office announced Tuesday. Dolan is under investigation by the Montana Department of Roger WHITEHALL Martin B. Carey, 79, life long North Boulder Valley rancher, died Monday in a Butte Hospital.

He was born March 20, 1918 in Boulder to Frank and Mary (Gallagher) Carey. Martin was raised on the family ranch in the North Boulder Valley. He attended grade school in Cardwell and graduated frqro Whitehall High School in 1936. After graduation he attendea Butte Business College. Martin was the 1st person drafted from Jefferson County during WWII.

He served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corp from 1941 to 1945, stationed in Alaska for 42 months. After the service he returned to the family ranch where he has resided since. On June 4, 1946 he married Mary Brown in Butte. Martin was very active in ranching, serving as director of the Montana Livestock P.C.A.

from 1978 to 1984, was a member of the Montana Stockgrowers Association, member and past president of the Bull Mountain Grazing Association. Council member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Boulder and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in the North Boulder Valley. Member of Whitehall V.F.W.

Post 4603. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, 3 brothers, Francis, John, and Joseph. 3 sisters, Lillian, Josephine and Virginia. Survivors include; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Glen Leavitt of Dillon. Sisters; Mary Ellen Murphy of Boulder, Agnes Oeverndiek of Belmont, Rose Monahan of Butte, Eleanor Conriell of Long Beach, Calif.

A brother and sister in law, Thomas and Helen Carey of the North Boulder Valley. A sister-in-law, Dora Carey of the North Boulder Valley, a brother-in-law, Whale Phelan of Bigfork, sister-in-law Margaret Atkins of Helena. 2 grandchildren, Jonathan and Chad Leavitt of Dillon. Special friends, Joan Jones and daughter, Michelle, Stewart Way and the Gornick family, all of Whitehall. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 1 1:30 A.M.

in St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Whitehall with Father William Greytak officiating. Prayer-Wake services will be Thursday evening at 7:30 P.M. in St. Teresa's Catholic Church with Father Frank Wiegenstein officiating.

Burial will be in the North Boulder Valley Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, in the North Boulder Valley or to St. Catherine's Catholic Church Building Fund in Boulder. Scott Funeral Home in Whitehall is in charge of arrangements.

Thanks to all tor the flowers gifts which I received. Thanks also to Tom Donna who came to help care for me. I've probably missed someone but not intentionally. Thank You All, Kay Stayer Schools' Roger Rice passed away suddenly at St. Vincent's Hospital on April 20, 1997.

Roger Coles Rice was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 11, 1925, to Leonice Brown Rice and Richard Gorman Rice. He was educated in various schools throughout the east, graduating from Potsdam New York High School in 1943. He went into the service November 11, 1943 and served under the Army Ordinance 523rd Unit training Fort Benning, Georgia and serving the next thirty months in the South Pacific, New Guinea and the Philippines. He was discharged February 22, 1946 and entered the Montana School of Mines in Butte, Montana in September of 1946. He graduated in 1953 with a degree in Geological Engineering.

He started with the Montana Power Company in 1950 as a draftsman and went on after graduation as a geologist working for them out of Cut Bank, Montana until 1970 when he transferred to Western Energy in Billings as a geologist for their Colstrip operation. He worked in Texas, Wyoming, Canada and Brazil and retired in November of 1986 as Senior Vice President of Exploration and Resources for Western Energy Company after thirty-seven years. He received the professional degree in Geological Engineering in 1982 from Montana Tech and the Uuno Sahinen Silver Medallion Award in 1993. Roger was a member of Theta Tau Fraternity, Montana Geological Society, AIPG, AAPG, Montana Mining Association, Northwest Mining Association and the Billings Gem and Mineral Club. In 1952 in Butte, Montana, he married Audrey Johnston Rice who survives.

They traveled extensively in their motor home up (the motor home was on its second engine) until the construction of their cabin on Hauser Lake in 1995. He enjoyed his cats, Colstrip I and II. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Audrey, son and daughter-in-law Craig and Debra Rice of Butte, daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Paul Cameron of Ona, West Virginia, Susan and Brad Martin of Billings and Pam and Mike Betz of Everett, Washington; his beloved grandchildren Jacquelyn, Heather and Joshua Roger Rice, Christina, Sarah, Maria and David Cameron, Brittany and Tyler Martin, Makayla and Rebecca Betz, one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kaitlin Rice of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard and Catherine Johnston of Butte and many nieces and nephews. Roger subscribed to the philosophy "Do not go where the path may lead.

Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." Roger will be cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26th at 3:00 p.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church. Memorials may be sent to the Montana Tech Alumni Association, P.O. Box 3284, Butte, Montana 59702 or donors choice. Michelotti, Sawyers Nordquist Mortuary of Billings is in charge of arrangements.

Paid for by the family Obituaries Earl Barsantl, 77 SHELLEY, Idaho Funeral services for former Butte resident Earl Barsanti, 77, of Shelley, Idaho, were held Saturday in Shelley where he ha3 lived for 41 years. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley. Mr. Barsanti died Thursday at Columbia Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born on Feb.

15, 1920, in Kinsington, Ohio, to Arthur and Fontuna Casagranda Barsanti. He served with the Navy during World War II on the USS Colorado and was discharged in 1945. He married Doris Bjorgum in Butte; they later divorced. He married Doris A. Skelton on June 8, 1950, in Butte.

He worked as a shop foreman with several car dealers in Butte, worked in the Butte mines, was a feed lot operator, operated the S-BAR Cattle Co. in Shelley, worked as a heavy equipment operator for Hood Construction, was owner-operator of the Sinclair service station in Shelley, for 15 years was the Shelley fire chief, and was the City of Shelley supervisor for 18 years, retiring in March 1984. He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Shelley, was a charter member and charter president of the Shelley Lions Club, was a life member and charter commander of the Shelley Veterans of Foreign Wars post, was a member of the American Legion, B.P.O.E., Rolling Russetts Chapter of the Good Sam Club and a charter member of the Shelley Quick Response Unit. He enjoyed traveling and after his retirement he and his wife spent their winters in Quartzsite, Ariz. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and George Cremeans of Oak Ridge, Diana and Kenton Jensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Bernadine and Ronald Garbarino of Butte and Linda and Merv Dickson of Springfield, 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his stepfather-in-law, Henry Wetmore of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and a brother, Albert Bersanti of Butte.

He was preceded in death by a son, Earl Barsanti a grandson; three sisters; and two brothers. Louise Stepan, 78 Anaconda native Louise June Stepan, 78, of Cypress, died April 5. Funeral services were held April 9 in Whittier, and burial was held at Rose Hills, Carnation Lawn. Mrs. Stepan was born on June 19, 1918, in Anaconda to Albert and Elizabeth Kasky.

As a child in Anaconda she had a paper route, sold flowers and worked in her mother's restaurant. During World War II, she married George Stepan in South Carolina. After the war, the couple settled in Anaconda where they lived until 1978. She enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, sewing and sketching. For a number of years, she was a licensed practical nurse at Warm Springs State Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, George of Cypress; daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth Stepan of Cypress, Sandra Stepan of Philadelphia, and Marsha and Art Nelson of Philadelphia; two grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Pilon of Anaconda. She was preceded in death by brothers, Albert, Lawrence and John, and two sisters, Olga and Martha. Hope Lutheran Church Washoe Park Drive 1 1 :00 a.m. 1 :30 p.m. Salexts.

Assistant Attorney General Betsy Horsman-Wiitala said Dolan agreed that someone should be appointed to temporarily fill her position. The announcement said Dolan will remain on paid leave pending the results of an investigation. A decision will be made in coming weeks whether any charges are filed.

On April 7, the Justice Department requested an audit of City Court records. It showed $18,704 of $22,263 in bond payments and fines were" not deposited into accounts July 1995 through January 1997. She was born in Butte on July 16, 1903 to William and Mary (Boundy) Carveth and attended The McKinley Grade School and graduated from Butte High School. She had worked in the nursery department of the old St.

James Hospital as well as Community Hospital. She was a longtime and active member of St. Johns Episcopal Church. She married Michael J. Ryan on March 9, 1921 in Butte.

Mr. Ryan preceded his wife in death on March 10, 1961. She was also preceded in death by 4 Sisters and 2 Brothers. She is survived by Son and daughter in law: Thomas J. and Ruth Ryan of San Clemente, CA; Daughter and son in law: Patricia and Joseph Sidor of Helena; Grandchildren: Dan Sidor, Nancy and Jim Mayer, Kathy and Greg Wenneson, Janice Ryan and Jeff Faust, Linda and Don Meadows, Michael and Daisy Ryan, Julie and Stan Dodd and Beverly Ryan; Numerous Great Grandchildren: including Katie Mayer and Scott Mayer; Sisters in law: Nell Carveth and Anne Carveth both of Butte.

That's because when we send old aids in to be repaired, they are restored to the factory specifications that were ordered when they were new. Then you'll know what will be the best direction to take spending the money on repairing the old aids, or putting the money toward new aids. Wallace A. Orton Jr. passed away April 16, 1997 at age 77. Wally or "Duke" as he was better known to his many friends and family had been in critically ill health for the past year and was being wonderfully cared for at Crest Nursing Home.

Wallace was born in Bozeman Feb. 14, 1920 to Wallace A. Orton Sr. and Clara Nordstrom Orton. The family moved to Butte in 1936.

He graduated from Butte Public High School in 1940. For a brief period he was in the armed forces and was honorably discharged for physical reasons. He worked for his father in the Orton Brothers Music Store in Butte. Following his Father's death, the business was terminated and both Wallace and his mother retired. Wallace lived with and cared for his mother until her death in July 1990.

Wallace belonged to and was very active in a number of civic and fraternal organizations, including the Masons, Shrine, American Legion and UCT. He was the last of the pioneer family of Ortons who started a chain of Music stores in seven Montana cities, specializing in Kimball pianos. His grandfather, Alfred Orton, was a president of the Society of Montana Pioneers. Wallace was most recently preceded in death by his parents, aunt Charlotte Leipheimer Orton and cousin Virginia Orton Rickman. Survivors are three cousins, Robert Orton Smith and family of Bozeman, Mrs.

Gus (Susan Smith) Anderson and family of Pocatello and Mrs. Wm. (Mary Kimmons) Martin and family of Billings. Wallace has been cremated. Interment of his ashes and a graveside memorial service will be held at the Orton family plot in the Mount Moriah Cemetery at a date to be announced later Memorials may be sent to the Shrine Children's Hospital, P.O.
