B. F. Chamberlain of Boulder, has recently received scholarship for Ohio State College. The scholarship was received from the North Dakota School of Forestry where Chamberlain received his degree last month. Young Chamberlain is at present employed as a floriculturist at San Bruno, Calif.

Pioneer Notes Birthday G. Miller Observes 78th Anniversary WHITEFISH, A. Miller, July -George Montana for 57 years, celebrated his 78th birthday anniversary July 1. Mr. Miller, a native of Minnesota, went to he WAs 8 young man, lived there most Helena, of the time until 26 years ago when he moved to Whitefish.

He lived for time at Lincoln, Mont. He was the first superintendent a of the Masonic state home near Helena, and later, served as postmaster at Lincoln. His many friends here congratulated him on his birthday. and Mrs. F. G. Gustine, former residents of this community, visited with friends here while returning from a motor trip East to their home at Renton. Wash.

They were accompanied by their son, Dr. Floyd Gustine, and his wife and daughter. Nora Reckner and Elvan Tuttle, Whitehall, Wed in Bozeman WHITEHALL, July -Two widely known Whitehall people, eluding their many friends, slipped away to Bozeman and returned as man and wife. Miss Nora Reckner became the bride of Elvan U. Tuttle in a quiet ceremony performed by the Rev.

Glen Mell in the home of bridegroom's brother, R. S. Tuttle. Mr. Tuttle is manager of the Laurel Leaf bulk station here has lived in Whitehall all his life.

The bride, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Doty, residents of Whitehall until recently, has been employed in the Trail cafe here. The following Whitehall boys are enjoying a ten-day furlough at home until July 15 from military training camps: Franklin Yetter, Eldah and Derrald.

Payne, Ralph and Harold Sullender, Ray Critchfield, Desmond Smith, John Tebay, Pioneers Note Anniversary Kalispell Couple Observes Jubilee KALISPELL, July -Kalispell's Golden Jubilee celebration staged the week of July 4, was of unusual significance to the Dyer family, for not only are Mr. and Mrs. Joe, Dyer, 725 Sixth avenue east, celebrating their 50 years' residence here, but they are also observing their 57th wedding anniversary. Mary Elliot and Joe Dyer were married in Indiana territory and came to Montana in 1891. They made the trip to Ravalli train and from there to Polson by stage coach, crossed Flathead lake on the old steamer, Klondyke, and landed one and a half miles south of Creston.

They first filed on a homestead near Creston, where they lived for several years before making a trip to their former home, then become the state of Oklahoma. The lure of the Flathead brought them back to Creston, they purchased a farm and continued to reside until three years when they retired and moved into the city of Kalispell. The Dyer family including three sons and six daughters. They are William of Arizona; Bert of Seattle: John of Butte; Mrs. Etta Turns of Missoula; Mrs.

Joe Plummer and Mrs. Ellen Fagerland of Kalispell; Mrs. Bernice Fagerland of Creston; Mrs. Velma Larson of San Francisco and Mrs. Grace Anderson of Somers.

Dyer. Changes Made in Churches Rev. Swisher Leaves Sheridan Pastorate SHERIDAN, July The Rev. and Mrs. E.

D. Swisher, left Thursday for Ryegate, where Mr. Swisher will take up the pastorate of the Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs.

Swisher have been in Sheridan for the past six years, and will be greatly missed in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Swisher were the' inspiration for several dinner parties before their departure for their new home. The Sheridan pastorate is now in charge of the Rev.

J. Kemp Tunis, who came to the Montana conference from Maryland a short time ago. Mr. and Mrs. Tunis served at Ryegate the past year.

Montana Pioneers Make Plans for Convention in Missoula 4-H Club Meetings Held at Harrison HARRISON, July Peppy Peppers 4-H club met at the Will Fergurson home with Floyd Fergurson as host.

Plans were discussed taking livestock to the 4-H fair this year. Louis May strated how to make a calf halter. Games and lunch was enjoyed after the business meeting. The Lucky Star 4-H meeting was held at the clubhouse with Edith Jackson, vice president presiding. Other members present were Kathleen Craig.

McDonnell of Jeffers on Friday. 44 Register 44 Register SALMON, Idaho, July 12-(Special) -The local draft board met Wednesday night to number registration cards of 44 young men who had reached their twenty-first birthday since October 16. There were three registration points in Lemhi county on July 2, with registration as Leadore 5.

Patterson 5, Salmon 34. Nine of the registered men were from out of the county. Happenings in Pony Last Week Are Reported PONY, July and Mrs. Wayne Corrington and son Wilton, N. visited at the home of Mr, and Mrs.

Fritze. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Davis are the parents of a baby boy born last week in the Whitehall hospital. Mrs.

Oscar Reistad and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Osborne and daughter attended the Livingston rodeo July 4th. First of 28 Jefferson Will Be Conscripted Early-Day Settlers of Ringling Honored at Dinner RINGLING, July and Mrs. Henry Sparks entertained at a trout dinner in their home last Sunday.

The dinner was to honor the early-day residents of Castle and Ringling who still live in this locality. The guests of honor were Mrs. Annie Carr, Mrs. Mary Short, Mr. and Mrs.

and Mrs. John Carney of Helena visited relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Oppegaard of Hamilton Are Feted on Golden Wedding Anniversary HAMILTON, July Nearly 100 friends and family members were in attendance at the golden wedding anniversary celebration of Mr.

and Mrs. 0.. M. Oppegaard recently at their ranch home northwest of Hamilton, Open house was announced for the event and between the hours of 2 and 6 o'clock, tea was served. The traditional wedding cake was a centerpiece and there were flowers of many kinds to deck the home.

Mrs. Birch Farmer of Stevensville presided at the lovely table and those to serve were Mrs. George Anderson and Mrs. Cecil Wallace. The two latter are daughters of Mr.

A. Towne Services Will Be in Nebraska HAMILTON, July The body of Clyde Arthur Towne, victim of a haying accident, will be sent from Missoula to his old home at Maywood, wednesday. There will no funeral rites here. Mr. fatally hurt in derrick accident' in a hay barn at the E.

E. Hackett west of Victor Monday afternoon. No one witnessed the accident, but a 12- year-old son, Clyde, who was driving the derrick horse outside in the barnyard, heard his father cry out, and he summoned help. The 10- foot fall resulted in a skull fracture. Mr.

Towne died without regaining consciousness, as he was being rushed in an ambulance to the Daly hospital here, Mrs. Towne, her sons, Clyde and Lyle, and daughters, Clara and Audrey, will accompany the casket to Maywood. Mr. Towne had served a year in the Army in the United States during the World war. His mother, brothers and sisters reside at Maywood, and there are also relatives of Mrs.

Towne in the 'Nebraska community. County Men Monday Quota Established: 27 New Men Signed on July 1 BOULDER, July Tell Parini of Elk Park, one of 10 brothers registered under the selective service act, will be first of 28 Jefferson county men scheduled to be conscripted in the next few weeks, according to draft board officials here. He has been notified to leave Monday for Fort Missoula. Also notified to report was Herman M. Ronning, who registered at Boulder and now resides at Seattle.

The gross quota for this county as of June 28 was 101 men. Three have been conscripted and 72 men have enlisted in military service. Since June 28; five men have been sent by the local draft board to the Army. No time limit for supplying the remaining 28 men in the quota has been set. Following is a list of the young men who registered in Jefferson county this month: Johnnie Wendelin Reiter, Len Lavern Bragg, Paul Alexander Robert, George Dudley Ballard, Oscar William Dahl, Charles Rush Horton, Edward Donald Topsick, Rafael Garcia, Charles Turner Oldham, Joseph M.

Hernandos, Gilbert Wallace Buck, Albraham Candiotti, Terry James Coghlan, Joseph Charles William Robert Wallin, Everett' Charles Mueller, Bryne Karri, Antone Joseph Wilbur Everett Thorson, Daniel Edward Martin, Joseph letta, Howard R. Beer, George William Capp, Leo Joseph Maloney, A. Edward Zezula, Raymond Edward Flood, and William George Roe. A national lottery will be held in Washington, D. the latter part of this month, to determine order numbers of the 27 registrants.

Funeral Conducted SALMON, Idaho, July services were conMonday afternoon the Doebler chapel for Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth Longley, 40, who died July 2 at the Rose hospital in childbirth. Mrs. Longley WAS born. at Salmon March 23, 1941, and lived here all her life.

Building Pool SALMON, Idaho, July Construction of a swimming pool is under way at Salmon, following the decision of the city council Monday night. The pool will be in the narrow channel of the Salmon river, as. it divides around Island park. The channel is being dammned, and the pool above will be roped off into three parts- a deep pool for diving, a shallow pool, and a wading pool for very small children. A playground supervisor who can swim will be certified by WPA to have charge of the water playground.
