Poll Shows Renne Popular COLORADO SPRING, Colo. (UPI) The grandson of Rep, William Henry Harrison, was killed Friday when the car in which he was riding went out of control 16 miles south of here and stashed i an embank ment. The Colorado State Patrol said Benjamin H. Williams, 19, of (625 No. 16th) Powderville, died of a brain concussion.

The driver of the car, William F. Scholtz, 19, of Sheridan, and another passenger, James N. Collins, 18, also of Sheridan, were injured and taken to St. Francis Hospital at Colorado Springs. The patrol said Scholtz appar ently fell asleep at the wheel on four-lane U.S.

85-87. The car ran the left side of the road for 118 feet, hit a guard post, veered into the median strip in the center of road, and smashed into the dirt embankment Scholtz suffered lacerations, ab rasions and contusions, and Collins head injuries, broken wrists, a broken right knee and lacera tions. Young Williams' body was taken to Swan Mortuary ki Colorado Springs. Williams was the son of the congressman's daughter, Mrs. Mary Beth Brewer of Powder- viMe, by a former marriage.

The victims father, Gordon Wilbams, lives at Sheridan. The accident brought to 108 the 1963 Colorado Highway death toll, compared with 94 a year earlier. favor by staying with a job he had committed himself to. From the public standpoint, I think the people feel it was a shabby trick of the regents to try to force him to return. There is no emer gency.

If there were, it would be different." There is a feeling among many Democrats mat only an announce ment by Renne will prevent free-for-all gubernatorial primary with perhaps as many as a dozen seeking the nomination. They fear such a battle would shatter the party and 'make Bafocock's re election a cinch. Some Would Scare These Democrats believe an announcement by Renne would "scare off" a number of possible candidates. Some also believe an announcement in support of Ren ne by Sens. Mike Mansfield and Lee Metcalf also would help out the field.

At least two Democratic hope fuls are reported not about to be scared off by Renne or anyone else. They are Mike Kuchera, the Billings furniture dealer who unsuccessfully sought the Demo cratic nomination in 1960, and Paul Cannon of Butte, who got the 1960 nomination. Kuchera is the only publicly announced can didate. But Cannon has told number of top party officials and others that he definitely wiH be a candidate 1964. Others regarded as likely or possible candidates are Jack Toole of Shelby, who lost out in the 1960 primary; John W.

Ma- han of Helena, who unsuccessfully sought the U.S. Senate nomina tion in 1960; James; Senate Pres ident Pro Tem Dave M. Man ning of Treasure County; the Andersons, LeRoy and Forrest; State Sen. William A. Graff of Ravalli County, 1963 Senate ma jority leader; Sens.

John L. Me- Keon of Deer Lodge County and Eugene H. Mahoney of Sanders f'-JM till I I III i Bids Will Be Called on 2 State Projects HELENA (LTD -Sens. Mike Mansfield and Lee Metcalf reported from Washington Friday the chief engineer office of the Reclamation Bureau in Denver will seek bids soon on two large Montana projects. Hie Montana Democrats said the agency win advertise on April for bids to furnish stringing conductors and 160 miles of 230-kilovoK transmission lines from Glendive to Custer.

The work must be completed within 330 days of the contract award. They said on April 30 the bureau wiH invite bids on two motor-driven wire rope hoists for spillway gates at Yellowtail Dam near Hardin. The hoists will weigh about 85,000 pounds each. J. Terpstra Bozeman Phone 586-5497 Mike Livingston Phone 222-1671 (Continued from Page 1) hope of knocking off Republican Gov. Tim Babcook in 1964. But since Tuesday, when Renne rejected the regents' "return or resign" ultimatum, some of his strongest supporters have expressed grave concern that the 56- year-old educator severely dam aged his chances of getting the nomination. Others Disagree Other Democrats figure Renne gained political stature by standing up to the regents and forcing them to stick to the one-year leave they granted him.

Still others feel Renne- may have hurt himself some, but not enough to take him out of top contention for the nomination In all cases, the Democrats feel certain the regents next April will refuse to renew Renne's contract, in effect, firing, him effective June 30, 1964. Those who fear Renne's action this week may have ruined him politically reason it this way: If he had sacrificed his high federal position and returned to Bozeman immediately, then got fired next April, he would have picked up public sympathy and support to sweep him into the governor's chair. As it is, they feel, the public will consider him arrogant and selfish in rejecting a unani mous appeal by the regents, al though he was within his legal rights to do so. Claim Gained Support Those of the opposite opinion believe Renne gained public ad miration and support by defying the regents, even though the ulti matum of the bipartisan board was unanimous and even though the motion to summon Renne back to Montana was made by Democratic Atty. Forrest H. Anderson. As one party leader put it. "If be wants to be governor, it has bebed him."
